About the position
The Medical Assistant position at Ochsner Health involves performing appointment scheduling and providing direct patient care within a clinic setting. The role is essential in assisting healthcare providers in delivering health care services and ensuring a positive experience for patients. The Medical Assistant will be responsible for various administrative and clinical tasks, contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the healthcare team.
Responsibilities
Ā Provide excellent customer service to all patients, guests, and family members.

Ā Ensure all patient required forms are completed and other paperwork/documents are gathered and accurate.

Ā Efficiently input patient/guarantor demographic and financial information; explain insurance benefits and collect co-pays, deductibles, and self-pay portions due.

Ā Perform vital signs and other screenings, obtaining height, weight, allergy and medication history and other assessments.
,
Ā Prepare patients for exams, explaining any procedures before they are performed and answering the patients' questions.

Ā Schedule and reschedule patient appointments by phone or in person, including transferring patients to the appropriate departments for scheduling and updating necessary information.

Ā Adapt behavior to the specific patient population, including respect for privacy and communication style.

Ā Remain knowledgeable on current federal, state and local laws, accreditation standards or regulatory agency requirements that apply to the assigned area of responsibility.
Requirements
Ā High school diploma or equivalent required.

Ā Completion of a Medical Assistant training program preferred.
,
Ā Related experience in a clinic or medical office setting preferred.
,
Ā Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association required.
,
Ā Certification in Healthcare Access Manager (CHAM), Certification in Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA), or Certification as a Medical Assistant preferred.

Ā Computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information.

Ā Proficiency with Windows-style applications and keyboard.
,
Ā Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Ā Certification in Healthcare Access Manager (CHAM)
