The role of Social Researcher / Project Coordinator involves supporting Indigenous Nations in areas such as sovereignty and stewardship through social research and project coordination. Responsibilities Fieldwork and providing research support Coordinating and supporting on a diverse range of projects including those related to impact assessments, Indigenous engagement and consultation, and Indigenous Knowledge or Traditional Use Studies Working with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure our clients’ goals are met Building and maintaining client relationships through a comprehensive understanding of client needs, priorities, and objectives while providing excellent client service Prepare clear, concise reports and presentations that translate technical and research insights into plain-language narratives for diverse audiences Adhere to data privacy, governance, and ethical standards, including OCAP®/OCAS, PIPA, informed consent procedures, and client‑specific protocols Potentially support training and capacity building initiatives related to social research methodologies and conducting social research studies Skills 1-3 years of professional experience in a social research position or related Undergraduate or graduate degree in social sciences (e.g. anthropology, human geography, sociology) or related field or comparable practical experience Experience with qualitative research methods including interviews, focus groups, and surveys Experience with desktop research / literature reviews / jurisdictional scans / annotated bibliographies or similar Familiarity with Indigenous Knowledge Studies, Socio-Economic Impact Assessments, Community Well-being Studies, and other research used to inform Impact Assessment processes in Canada Experience supporting as an investigator on research projects Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, Word) Demonstrated experience working with Indigenous Nations in Canada or internationally, with knowledge of Indigenous and environmental issues in Canada Exceptional communication, organization, and attention to detail Collaborative team member who takes initiative and meets deadlines Willingness to travel across Canada, including to northern and remote communities and to work occasional overtime hours during work trips Quantitative research methods and basic statistical analysis Understanding of the role of Indigenous communities in regulatory processes and major development project partnerships in Canada Experience with Indigenous law and governance, UNDRIP, FPIC, shared decision-making Awareness of data and communication security and confidentiality Experience with community economic development, conflict resolution, capacity building / training, technical reviews, and multimedia story-telling Experience with ArcGIS and/or Survey123 Benefits Competitive compensation & annual bonus Remote work allowance Comprehensive health benefits & employee assistance program (health, dental, vision, and life insurance) Retirement savings plan with employer contributions Professional designation reimbursement & development opportunities Paid time off, including vacation, sick leave, cultural days, bereavement, and family care leave Winter tire rebate to support safe travel Flexible work options, including remote work Company Overview We work on behalf of Indigenous communities to help advance their rights and interests through: ■ Strategic Environmental Assessment guidance, coordination and support ■ Collaborative environmental, land and resource use planning and management ■ Indigenous Knowledge Studies (also known as Traditional Ecological Knowledge, Traditional Land Use Studies, or Land-Use and Occupancy Studies) ■ Technical assessments and mitigation planning in sectors such as water resources, remediation, land use, mining, oil & gas, linear corridor development, forestry, renewable energy, nuclear waste, contaminated sites, brownfield redevelopment, watershed planning, drought planning, water use planning, waste management and waste diversion ■ Strategy and advice around negotiation of impact benefit agreements, economic partnerships, and other similar accommodations Follow us on Twitter: @SharedValueCA It was founded in 2012, and is headquartered in Guelph, Ontario, CAN, with a workforce of 11-50 employees.
