The role involves developing and applying long-read sequencing methods in cancer research and human genomics, including building software for data analysis and collaborating with various partners. Responsibilities β’ Build reliable, well-tested bioinformatic software and end-to-end analysis pipelines β’ Apply bioinformatic tools to answer biological questions related to human health, including cancer and rare disease β’ Collaborate with external partners in both academia and industry, supporting and leading projects β’ Benchmark and evaluate bioinformatic methods β’ Communicate scientific findings through oral and written formats, including papers, posters, and talks at national and international scientific conferences Skills β’ Ph.D. in a computational or biological field (e.g., bioinformatics, genetics, genomics, computer science) β’ Strong programming skills in Rust, Python, or C++ β’ Proficiency in analyzing large-scale sequencing datasets (e.g., genomics, transcriptomics, epigenomics, genome assemblies) β’ Foundational understanding of cancer genetics, human genomics, or RNA biology, with interest in developing deep expertise in these areas β’ Basic statistical skills for analyzing large datasets, including visualization, modeling, and quality control β’ Track record of scientific publishing, including first-author manuscripts β’ Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills β’ Experience working within large scientific consortia and collaborating closely with both wet-lab and computational teams β’ Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain analysis pipelines using WDL or Snakemake β’ Experience building and deploying containerized software (e.g., Docker or Singularity) β’ Familiarity with modern software development practices Company Overview β’ PacBio is a biotechnology company that designs, develops, and manufactures sequencing systems.
