Job Summary/Basic Function



The Mentors for Outreach and Retention in Education (MORE) in the Moyes College of Education is an essential part of a team focused on recruiting and retaining students.

The MORE student workers will be responsible for supporting the success of recruitment and retention programs and may be asked to help with:

? Visiting schools and other locations for recruitment.

? Offering assistance and a listening ear to Moyes College of Education students through broad support and targeted outreach.

? Developing, moderating, and leading participation in bi-weekly

meetings/programs related to the following topics:

? Aiding students in navigating campus resources (financial aid, registration,

wellness, tutoring, food bank, counseling, disability services, etc.)

? Developing a connection to campus and community (transition to college,

making meaningful connections, participating in College of Education clubs and programs as well as community programs, etc.)

? Preparing for graduation and beyond (resumes, leadership skills,

communication skills, working with diverse populations, etc.)

? Staffing the MORE center in the buildings.



To facilitate opportunities for mentees to achieve the outcomes related to the areas mentioned above, MORE student workers will adhere to the following expectations:

? Attending and participating in all required training.

? Being a positive role model for mentees.

? Being a positive representative of the Moyes College of Education

? Demonstrating an ability to work with diverse populations.

? Facilitating effective one on one and small group mentoring meetings.

? Facilitating participation of mentees.

? Facilitating/coordinating relevant workshops.

? Demonstrating professionalism, organization, excellent communication and listening skills, responsibility, accountability, integrity, and a desire to learn, grow and develop as a leader.

? Being a responsible team member.

? Performing other duties as assigned.

MORE student workers will work under the supervision of the Strategic Initiatives and Assessment Specialist with direction from the College Success Team and will be required to attend and participate in training, staff meetings, workshops, etc.,

throughout the year as well as demonstrate a commitment to their team and College of Education goals and expectations.

Required Qualifications



Minimum Requirements:

2.5 GPA or higher

Full-time (12 credits or more)

Must be a Moyes College of Education Undergraduate (working towards first degree)

Must have completed at least one semester at WSU by the end of the Fall 2021

Must demonstrate an ability or desire to work effectively with historically underrepresented students.

MORE will be expected to complete required training given in collaboration with the Center for Multicultural Excellence.

Excellent communication skills

Organizational skills

Autonomous and proactive

Google Suite expertise

Gmail experience

Excellent communication skills (presenting/communicating information, actively listening, mediating, conflict management)

Preferred Qualifications



Preferred Qualifications:

3.0 GPA to qualify for CRLA (College Reading and Learning Association)

certification

Work study is preferred. Completed FAFSA.

Has participated in concurrent enrollment.

Experience working with diverse populations

Experience mentoring and/or motivating others

Experience coordinating programs and people participation

Teamwork/Team-oriented
