We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Manager of Gallery Teaching to lead our team in creating transformative and inclusive gallery experiences that foster social justice discussions and community engagement. As a key member of our education team, you will play a crucial role in shaping the next generation of museum professionals and promoting equity and inclusion in the arts.


Job Summary:


The Manager of Gallery Teaching will oversee the development and implementation of visitor-centered training modules, recruit and supervise emerging art professionals, and collaborate with colleagues to align professional opportunities and management approaches. You will also contribute to department-wide training efforts, manage budgets, and develop educational materials to ensure engaging and experiential experiences for our audiences.


Key Responsibilities:



  • Develop and implement consolidated training modules that advance social justice narratives and promote constructive dialogue

  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate Interpretation and Outreach Associates (IOAs) and volunteer Gallery Guides

  • Collaborate with colleagues to align professional opportunities and management approaches for IOAs and volunteer Gallery Guides

  • Manage budgets and develop educational materials to ensure engaging and experiential experiences for our audiences

  • Contribute to department-wide training efforts and outreach initiatives to augment visitation from community groups

  • Build and maintain connections with progressive museum educators and provide regular updates on approaches and impacts


Requirements:



  • Bachelor's Degree in art history, education, or museum studies

  • Five years of work experience in youth development with a focus on art or similar field, including experience supervising staff

  • Demonstrated abilities in writing about and teaching visual arts, with a track record of developing productive intergenerational learning environments

  • Knowledge of museum education and experience teaching with a social justice and/or ethnic studies framework

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with research, public speaking, and computer skills essential

  • Competitive salary range: $77,000 - $90,000 per year
