Description
Develops and maintains effective and efficient health information systems and networks. Optimizes accuracy of the medical record as a medicolegal document that meets accreditation, licensing and reimbursement requirements. Develops, interprets and applies organization's policies, budgets and long-range plans for Health Information Management facilities, equipment and personnel.
Essential Duties
Ā Actively participates in designing, implementing and updating automated health information systems.
Ā Assists in maintaining a sound corporate compliance program.
Ā Collaborates to improve the effectiveness and availability of health information.
Ā Develops and manages department capital and operating budgets.
Ā Educates users to provide a clear understanding of the requirements for timely, adequate and accurate documentation.
Ā Establishes and monitors productivity and quality standards for essential department functions.
Ā Establishes facility policies for the retention, release and confidentiality of health information.
Ā Manages all operations, services schedules, programs and projects in the Health Information Management Department.
Ā Manages and provides leadership in financial matters regarding budgeting and cost control and revenue generation.
Ā Participates and contributes to assigned committees, teams, task forces, including community service if applicable.
Ā Provides leadership and direction for improving patient/customer satisfaction and ensuring quality patient care.
Ā Serves as corporate privacy officer for HIPAA-related functions.
Ā Updates health information activities and systems to assure that data meet institutional needs and regulatory requirements.
Requirements
Required Experience
Ā Minimum three years management experience in the Health Information Management Department of a mid- to large-sized acute care facility in the last five years
Ā Management of all major functions in the Health Information Management Department
Required Licensure/Education
Ā Master's degree in healthcare or business administration preferred, Bachelors Degree required.
Preferred Education
Ā Registered health information administrator (R.H.I.A.), preferred.
Ā Registered health information technician (R.H.I.T).preferred.
Ā Have to have strong coding /hospital billing exposure given this is 90% of the job.
Ā Hybrid position, must have flexibility to handle on the job responsibilities when necessary. This would be case by case.
