About the position
- Responsibilities
- Validate Loan Closing Documentation and pre-closing Due Diligence Requirements for each loan.
- Review, interpret, and validate loan documentation according to M&T Legal guidance.
- Complete the Commercial Closing Checklist and ensure all required documents are captured correctly.
- Submit the completed Commercial Closing Checklist to the Senior Closing Officer for review.
- Follow up with approved Bank counsel and other partners to finalize loan documentation and funding.
- Address discrepancies and issues found during due diligence and loan closing processes.
- Coordinate with team members to resolve escalated problems and exception requests.
- Communicate effectively with co-workers to foster a positive team environment.
- Confirm loan closing and satisfactory review of executed loan documents with Senior Closing Specialist.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of processes and procedures related to closing capabilities.
- Manage time effectively to meet deadlines while handling multiple closing requests.
- Assist and provide backup to other closing team members as needed.
- Attend departmental training calls to stay current on procedures and regulatory updates.
- Report customer complaints to the Office of Customer Advocacy as appropriate.
- Adhere to the Company's risk and regulatory standards and identify risk-related issues.
- Requirements
- Bachelor's degree and a minimum of two years related commercial loan closing experience, or a combined six years of higher education and/or work experience with two years of related experience.
- Knowledge of the commercial closing process, loan documentation, and applicable regulations.
- Strong detail orientation for examining information and resolving issues.
- Strong interpersonal skills for business partner relationships.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Self-motivated and well-organized individual.
- Ability to work under time constraints and handle multiple tasks.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Nice-to-haves
- Familiarity with Loan Approvals and Escalation/Exception Requirements.
- Knowledge of unit/department policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of applicable products, systems, and workflows.
- Paralegal experience and experience in lending operations, underwriting, and customer service.
