Role Description
This is a remote volunteer position for someone passionate about college access and mentorship. As a College Prep Volunteer, you’ll work directly with high school students to support their college application journey. This includes reviewing personal statements, recommending colleges based on student goals, and helping them stay on track with deadlines and the Common App.
- What you’ll do:
- Review and provide feedback on college essays and personal statements
- Build personalized college lists based on student interests, finances, and goals
- Help students understand and complete the Common App
- Provide timelines and light accountability check-ins to keep students on track
- Work 1-on-1 with students (2–3 hours per week, flexible scheduling)
- What we’re looking for:
- Experience with college applications (your own or advising others)
- Strong writing/editing skills and attention to detail
- Empathetic, patient, and committed to education equity
- Able to work independently with a proactive mindset
- Nice to have:
- Familiarity with financial aid and scholarships
- Experience supporting first-gen or underrepresented students
