About the position Responsibilities β€’ Teach all levels of Transitional skills in adult education (ABE, GED preparation, and High School+), including computer and work readiness skills. β€’ Teach all levels of ESOL in adult education, including computer and work readiness skills. β€’ Administer Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment System (CASAS) Appraisal, Pre-tests, and Post-tests, and collect, submit, and analyze data for program reporting in the Web-based Adult Transitional Education Reporting System (WABERS). β€’ Collaborate with other instructors in developing courses and curricula. β€’ Manage record keeping complying with federal and state requirements. β€’ Consult with students and assist all students in setting, documenting, and monitoring progress toward meaningful personal and educational goals. β€’ Provide quality teaching including related preparation and grading. β€’ Provide class syllabi to students enrolled in classes and to the division office as requested. β€’ Maintain accurate records of students and complete forms as required. β€’ Attend quarterly or more frequently Transitional Studies meetings. β€’ Maintain current knowledge within the appropriate discipline and within the teaching profession. β€’ Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to the community college mission, diversity, and a learning-centered climate. β€’ May require evening instruction. β€’ Perform other related duties as required and/or assigned. Requirements β€’ Bachelor's degree from an accredited College or University in Adult/Developmental Education, TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or a closely related field. β€’ Intermediate-level computer competency, including Microsoft Office Applications. β€’ Excellent English speaking, writing, listening, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. β€’ Experience with integrated and/or contextualized basic skills instruction. β€’ Demonstrate ability to use technologies commonly used in instruction and office environments, including the ability to effectively use learning management systems in all class modalities. β€’ Demonstrate success teaching in face-to-face, online and hybrid environments. β€’ Demonstrate interest and ability to work successfully with students, staff, and the community. β€’ Demonstrate attention to detail, as well as previous experience maintaining accurate records, managing multiple tasks, and planning and organizing work in order to meet changing priorities and deadlines. β€’ Demonstrate experience facilitating the success of students who represent a broad range of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds. β€’ Uphold Olympic College's values and ethics necessary to foster a climate of respectful, open, and honest discourse. Nice-to-haves β€’ Master's degree from an accredited College or University in Adult/Developmental Education, TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or a closely related field. β€’ Experience teaching students from a range of countries, including both immigrants/refugees and international students in the community college environment. β€’ Knowledge and understanding of how varied cultural perspectives affect learning and communication. β€’ Experience implementing Basic Skills requirements of the SBCTC, e.g., Washington Adult Learning Standards, CCRS familiarity. β€’ Demonstrate understanding and implementation of current, student-centered pedagogy with use of active learning. β€’ Demonstrate strong organizational leadership, interpersonal, and collaborative skills. β€’ Experience in assessing effectiveness of ESOL teaching methods and ESOL curriculum/program changes on student engagement and success. β€’ Experience in and commitment to professional development activities in ESOL and related fields, possibly including publications, presentations, organization membership, conferences, and workshops. β€’ Experience teaching online. β€’ Bilingual abilities, desirable. β€’ Experience administering the CASAS appraisals, pre-tests, and post-tests.
