About the position
The Medical Assistant position at Ochsner Health involves performing appointment scheduling and providing direct patient care within a clinic setting. Responsibilities
Β Provide excellent customer service to all patients, guests, and family members.

Β Ensure all patient required forms are completed and other paperwork/documents are gathered and accurate.

Β Efficiently input patient/guarantor demographic and financial information; explain insurance benefits and collect co-pays, deductibles, and self-pay portions due.

Β Perform vital signs and other screenings, obtaining height, weight, allergy and medication history and other assessments.

Β Prepare patients for exams, explaining any procedures before they are performed and answering the patients' questions.

Β Schedule and reschedule patient appointments by phone or in person, including transferring patients to the appropriate departments for scheduling and updating necessary information.

Β Adapt behavior to the specific patient population, including respect for privacy and communication style.

Β Remain knowledgeable on current federal, state and local laws, accreditation standards or regulatory agency requirements that apply to the assigned area of responsibility.
Requirements
Β High school diploma or equivalent required.

Β Completion of a Medical Assistant training program preferred.
,
Β Related experience in a clinic or medical office setting preferred.
,
Β Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association required.

Β Certification in Healthcare Access Manager (CHAM), Certification in Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA), or Certification as a Medical Assistant preferred.

Β Computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information.

Β Proficiency with Windows-style applications and keyboard.

Β Effective verbal and written communication skills.
