Our client, a rapidly growing technology firm, is seeking an accomplished Senior Legal Counsel with a specialization in Data Privacy and Compliance to join their esteemed legal department. This is a fully remote position, allowing you to contribute your expertise from anywhere in the United States. You will be responsible for advising the company on a wide range of data privacy laws and regulations, including GDPR, CCPA, and other global data protection frameworks. This role requires a meticulous approach, a deep understanding of legal intricacies, and the ability to navigate complex compliance landscapes. Responsibilities: Provide expert legal advice and strategic guidance on data privacy, data protection, and cybersecurity matters globally. Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive data privacy policies, procedures, and training programs. Conduct privacy impact assessments (PIAs) and data protection impact assessments (DPIAs). Review and advise on commercial agreements, vendor contracts, and third-party relationships concerning data privacy and security. Manage regulatory inquiries, investigations, and audits related to data privacy. Stay current with evolving data privacy laws, regulations, and enforcement trends worldwide. Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders across legal, product, engineering, marketing, and security teams. Assist in developing and implementing incident response plans for data breaches. Represent the company in legal proceedings or negotiations as needed. Contribute to the overall risk management strategy of the organization. Qualifications: Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school. Admission to at least one state bar (active and in good standing). Minimum of 7 years of legal experience, with a significant focus on data privacy, data protection, and compliance, preferably within a corporate legal department or law firm. In-depth knowledge of global data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, LGPD, PIPA). Experience with privacy-enhancing technologies and cybersecurity best practices. Excellent drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills. Proven ability to manage complex legal matters independently and provide practical, business-oriented advice. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, effective for remote collaboration. CIPP/US or CIPP/E certification is a plus. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, remote environment.
