Job description: Purpose: To provide departmental leadership for the continuous improvement of the instructional program at the secondary level; keep administration informed about current activities and emerging issues.
Minimum qualifications: District employee working in appropriate content area.
Supervisor: Principal or designated administrator
Job Responsibilities:
- Hold weekly (1-2 x) and monthly department meetings as established by administration.
- Submit to administrator the agenda, meetings minutes, and sign-in sheets within three days of the monthly meeting.
- Provide departmental leadership in implementing the Academic Content Standards and coordinate with other departments when appropriate. This will include assessment Maps, Unit Designs and Authentic Assessments.
- Provide Enrichment Instructors and Academic Coaches with content relevant materials and instructional strategies
- Skillfully manage individual, group, and organizational interactions
- Analyze and review disaggregated data from district approved assessments.
- Use educational technology
- Attend professional development and meetings as requested by the building or district administrator
- Participate in staff selection, mentor new staff to the department, recommend staff and assist with student teacher assignments
- Recommend additional courses and modifications to graduation requirements.
- Evaluate department needs, develop budget recommendations, maintain inventory
- Work cooperatively with administrators to implement curriculum, instruction and assessment aligned to district and building goals.
