Forensic Accountant – Post-Acquisition Accounting Reconstruction

🌍 Remote, USA 💹 Full-time 🕐 Posted Recently

Job Description

Description:

We are seeking an experienced forensic accountant to perform a narrowly scoped, post-acquisition accounting analysis related to the historical treatment of a recurring royalty expense.

This is not a bookkeeping, audit, or tax engagement. It is a forensic reconstruction and accounting-judgment engagement intended to support post-close review and potential indemnification discussions.

High-Level Scope

Review historical GL data and third-party royalty / remittance statements

Confirm how a recurring royalty cost was historically recorded (or omitted)

Assess correctness of the treatment under accrual / GAAP-consistent principles

Quantify EBITDA overstatement by period

Mechanically quantify implied valuation impact using an EBITDA multiple

What this is not

Not a fraud investigation

Not litigation testimony (at this stage)

Not a full financial statement re-audit

Required Credentials

Applicants must meet the following:

CPA (required)

Background in forensic accounting, litigation support, or transaction disputes

Comfortable issuing affirmative accounting conclusions, not just describing alternatives

Strongly Preferred

Former Big 4 (audit, transaction services, or forensic practice)

Additional credentials such as CFF, ABV, CFE, or similar

Experience with post-acquisition disputes, indemnification support, or EBITDA reconstruction

Deliverables

Written forensic accounting memo (approx. 5–10 pages)

EBITDA bridge / adjustment schedules

Valuation impact schedule

Target timeline: ~3–5 weeks

Budget: $8,000 fixed (not-to-exceed preferred). Scope is tightly defined and data will be well organized. If minor scope clarifications are required, please note any assumptions in your proposal.

To Apply, Please Include:

Confirmation of CPA status (and any additional credentials)

Summary of forensic / dispute-related experience

Confirmation you are comfortable issuing clear accounting conclusions

One example of similar work (redacted is fine)

Please begin your proposal with the word “FORENSIC” to confirm you’ve read the full description.

Shortlisted candidates will receive a detailed project brief.
