Job Description

Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. The Cincinnati Insurance Companies is seeking an application system administrator to support and maintain application/system environments. The role involves installing software, managing user permissions, and providing debugging assistance, as well as monitoring system performance and coordinating disaster recovery activities. Responsibilities β€’ Test (operational readiness/smoke test) third-party application software, upgrades and patches on servers β€’ Maintain third-party software on servers β€’ Manage generic and service accounts (e.g. change passwords, decommission) β€’ Validate and monitor software/server access β€’ Create and deploy DEV, QAT and PROD (if applicable) build packages β€’ Evaluate and recommend third-party software upgrades β€’ Optimize/configure third-party software on servers for multiple service areas β€’ Configure and install third-party software, upgrades and patches on servers β€’ Optimize generic and service accounts (e.g. change passwords) β€’ Coordinate software/hardware installs and upgrades with IT Infrastructure resources β€’ Provide debugging assistance to developers β€’ Set up and maintain application user permissions β€’ Review application-related documentation to identify and communicate pertinent upgrades/enhancement packs β€’ Analyze the effects of software/configuration changes on other systems β€’ Work together with development team (if applicable) and source integrity team for the first installation of application software/components and releases into environments (UAT, PROD) using their tools and processes for initial server deploys where applicable β€’ Configure and modify schedule tool for software cycles and processes (schedule jobs and processes) β€’ Monitor performance of third-party jobs/cycles and request additional capacity whenever necessary β€’ Monitor storage in regard to supported environments and request storage changes β€’ Monitor log files associated with third-party applications and automate monitoring and deleting of log files based on retention guidelines β€’ Generate, maintain and analyze system performance metrics β€’ Make recommendations for system performance improvement and availability β€’ Provide on-call support (i.e. incident management/outages) β€’ Validate Firewall, LoadBalancer and Server Configuration changes based on software and service area needed β€’ Create and execute database scripts and queries β€’ Validate/verify system backups are in place β€’ Plan and coordinate backup strategies β€’ Maintain and support databases β€’ Develop and submit firewall requests β€’ Plan and coordinate disaster recovery activities (i.e. environment, documentation, etc.) β€’ Perform troubleshooting β€’ Develop and follow multiple environment restart/recovery procedures and test plans β€’ Handle the start and completion of application services β€’ Implement and maintain interfaces β€’ Coordinate with team and IT groups to develop or enhance existing solutions β€’ Identify integration points and reusable components between systems β€’ Research new technologies and provide recommendations based on impact β€’ Evaluate topologies making recommendations to optimize environments for changes in services β€’ Provide technical assistance to developers and other IT service areas β€’ Create and update scripts to automate system administration tasks β€’ Review system architecture design for potential system limitations, compliance with architecture standards and make recommendations β€’ Use third-party diagnostic tools and work with vendors to troubleshoot application issues β€’ Train/mentor less experienced associates β€’ Proactively recommend service area process improvements β€’ Understand and apply change, incident, release and problem management processes β€’ Understand and correctly follow service area/IT procedure, processes and standards β€’ Understand and follow internal and external audit compliance requirements β€’ Serve as the technical lead for upgrades of third-party application to new version β€’ Manage service requests (i.e. priority, coordination of tasks, reporting) β€’ Assist with resource assignments (i.e. project work efforts, non-project work efforts, on-call support) β€’ Create team communication plan for status meetings β€’ Manage pager and support rotation schedule β€’ Perform change manager responsibilities Skills β€’ Experience with system application architecture, database schemas and development tools β€’ Experience with supporting, troubleshooting and problem-solving production issues β€’ Familiar with .NET, WebSphere, Oracle, AIX and Linux β€’ Moderate understanding of web service technologies β€’ Experience with MQ and MIM β€’ Moderate understanding of jboss β€’ Familiar with XML technologies β€’ Experience with SQL Server, SQL and DB2 β€’ Effective communication skills both verbally and
