About the position Responsibilities β€’ Manage an active caseload of advisees primarily in structured programs, participating in proactive outreach and advisement throughout advisees' time at the university. β€’ Develop and maintain mastery of the university's academic program requirements, policies, and procedures. β€’ Work closely with students within associate and/or bachelor's degree programs to identify options that support a student's academic, professional, and intellectual goals whenever possible. β€’ Develop an understanding of and guide students through identifying university-level prior learning that may be eligible for academic credit, following established university procedures. β€’ On a limited basis, teach sections of the university's course on Educational Planning to assigned advisees/mentees where applicable by program. β€’ Promote and engage in the application of advising best practices, including data-driven improvements. β€’ Collaborate and share expertise with various university offices to advance holistic student support and retention initiatives. β€’ Participate in regularly scheduled meetings for department updates, team building, professional development, governance, and university strategic goals and initiatives. β€’ Provide first enrollment course advisement for new matriculated undergraduate students. β€’ Advise non-matriculated students. β€’ Assess incoming goals of students, competing priorities, and support needs. β€’ Conduct unofficial transcript reviews for prospective students. β€’ Support students in the enrollment process. Requirements β€’ Master's Degree from a regionally accredited US university or comparable non-US university. β€’ A minimum of 2 years of professional experience in the higher educational setting with a role specific to academic advisement or student development. β€’ Excellent and effective communication and organizational skills. β€’ Experience with computer databases and web-based communications platforms such as Banner, CRM, or other data management and tracking tools. β€’ Ability to work within a collaborative academic environment with faculty and staff from multiple departments. β€’ Desire and skills to engage with undergraduate learners in online settings, including both synchronous and asynchronous communication modes. Nice-to-haves β€’ Knowledge of adult learning, learning technologies and/or online pedagogies. β€’ Experience working in an online environment. β€’ Previous college teaching experience. β€’ Experience in best-practice and/or innovative advising initiatives. β€’ Prior knowledge of and experience working with bilingual and emergent bilingual learners, particularly in online settings. β€’ Prior experience working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse linguistic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
